Vote For Alberto Bocanegra for 15th Ward Alderman

February 11, 2011

Alberto Bocanegra, candidate for Alderman in Chicago’s 15th Ward, secured two important endorsements yesterday from Chicago’s main transit unions --Amalgamated Transit Union Locals 241 and 308. Local 241 represents the bus operators, mechanics and support staff of the Chicago Transit Authority’s bus service and Pace West Division.  Local 308 represents CTA’s rails workers, covering numerous job categories. Both unions, founded in 1902, have a long, proud history of fighting for the interests of its members. Together they represent over 15,000 current employees and retirees.

“I am very gratified and thankful to receive the endorsement of the hard working members of the CTA and Pace,” responded Mr. Bocanegra, upon learning of the news. “I have always been a strong ally and advocate for organized labor and I appreciate the recognition. Chicago’s unions have always been a source of its strength and I will continue to support the interests of working people once elected to the next City Council.”

Bocanegra added: “I especially appreciate these endorsements because CTA workers have a good reputation for providing reliable service. I hope to emulate that example. Just as City residents can rely on CTA workers to always be there for them, the residents of the 15th Ward can rely on me to always be there for them -- in delivering quality services from the City and winning the fight for more job opportunities, better schools and safer streets.”
